Newport Schemes - Underway

Glan Llyn – this major regeneration project is transforming the former 600 acre Newport Llanwern Steelworks site into a major new community and business park - Celtic Business Park. 4,000 new homes have outline planning permission and over 1000 have already been completed. The first primary school has been completed and a second primary school will be delivered with the later stages of the development. The site will also benefit from a railway station in near future. A number of employment units have also been constructed on the business park, including global giant Amazon. There remains significant capacity for further investment for both residential and commercial developments.

Market Arcade – refurbishment of the Grade II listed Market Arcade, the second oldest arcade in Wales, will provide flexible working space and retail outlets. We are working with partners to develop the arcade into an exciting new attraction for the city centre.

Mill Street – redevelopment of the former sorting office into circa 50,000 sq ft of high quality office accommodation. The redevelopment benefits from excellent connectivity with close proximity to the main rail station and vehicle parking, while the design incorporates the use of shipping containers as meeting rooms to create a modern office environment. 

Old Station Building – Change of use of ground and first floor old station building into 10,000 sq ft co-working and serviced office space. 

New Leisure Centre – Development of new £19.7m leisure scheme on brownfield site overlooking the River Usk. The new leisure and wellbeing facility will be an environmentally sustainable and energy efficient and accessible for residents and visitors supporting increased and city centre activity.

Coleg Gwent Campus – Proposed city centre campus on current Newport Leisure Centre site. The scheme will be in the region of 20,000 sqm providing teaching facilities for approx. 2,000 students enrolled on vocational courses.

Transporter Bridge Visitor Centre – Refurbishment of the listed transporter bridge and construction of new replacement visitor centre for an improved experience promoting one of Newport’s unique heritage and cultural attractions and enhancing the tourism offer.
