Newport City Council’s building control team has won recognition in two categories of the LABC Building Excellence Awards.
Y Sied in Treberth Crescent, a project by JG Hale Construction, Ainsley Gammon Architects and Pobl Group, won the best purpose-built accommodation in the regional awards.
Newport Market was also named the best non-residential extension, alteration or conversion. Its project team was made up of Loftco, Amser Building Services and Ellis Williams Architects. The council’s team worked jointly on the scheme with their colleagues from Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Councillor James Clarke, Newport City Council’s cabinet member for strategic planning, housing and regulation, said: “Congratulations to the building control team and this is deserved recognition for their excellent work.
“It demonstrates their commitment to ensuring that high standards are met in construction projects carried out in the city as well as forging strong and supportive partnerships with developers.”
The LABC Building Excellence Awards are the largest business to business awards in the building control sector in the UK.
They are open to anyone involved in a construction project where building control was provided by a local authority.
All regional winners are put forward for the Grand Finals in early 2024 when the national winners will be announced.
